What is with the deleted diaries?

I was watching the diaries and posting comments and PUFF they started to disappear. Not one but a number!!! Is this how a blog works, cut out the opposition?

I know things are frustrating. I know MyDD is losing traffic. I know that some feel it is important to control a message. Yet, at what cost? One diary to dissapear talked about how the posting were getting a little off the wall on this site and listed some diaries which were "bad." After a number of healthy comments, back and forth, it was censored out. The next posting reported how a key Puerto Rican Hillraiser had gone to Obama's side. W/i minutes this mere reporting of a bad fact was censored off the site.

Now I know it can get heated. In support of the 1st Amendment Justice Brandeis reminded us that the answer to "bad" speech is more "good" speech. Better known as the Market Place of Ideas. The administrators can couch the deletions in talking about "rule breaking." Yet, what could have possibly been wrong with announcing a defection?

The death of this site has to do with the way it is run. One of the rec'ed diary on DailyKos has over 800 comments. You would have to take all of the comments on this sites rec list and double it to get just that. There are over 2000 comments on Daily Kos's rec. list alone. Here, the new diary list creeps. You can get to the rec list with few recs. Sad, but the bench is very shallow here when compared to other like sites.

This is not to say the ideas on Daily Kos are better. It is not to say that Obama is better. It is merely to say that this creation of a censored echo chamber is killing your resource. When you have one diarist, listed three times, on the same rec list you have a problem. When the same group of writers dominate the list of five rec'ed diaries, every day, you stagnate. I could love Hillary and still not want to be here.

You can blame the MSM, the DNC, Obama, etc. for being unfair to Hillary. Yet, the death of this site is all on the people who censor and the people who have come to dominate. Fix it or watch this dwindle into a very very small echo chamber.

Now don't use the words "dailykos" in your comments. This has everything to do with YOU and nothing to do with anyone else.

Top Down Blog (1.50 / 2)

This is a great learning experience to see the Clinton machine's vision for the blogshere. MyDD is now a top down blog, just another spin machine. They organized and took over this site, but if anybody really cared about MyDD they could line up 25 people to rec their diaries to the top of the list also. But why act like the machine? People just come here now to be amused by the latest Clinton spin, nothing more. This is no longer a serious public blog.

Here's a hint to the admins: don't let banned racist trolls back, no matter how much their sockpuppets whine about it. First linfar, then TexasDarlin, then Fleaflicker (only to be banned again), for awhile I thought they might let Universal back too.

IT is amazing that my diary was deleted almost immediately, but the diaries with falsehoods and out and out racist remarks not only remain, but top the Wreck List.

How long before I'm air brushed like a Stalin victim? It doesn't hurt the site's opposition rather, it hurts Hillary. This has nothing to do with sympathies towards anyone candidate. It has everything to do with hurting the community's discussion.

Lets cut the melodrama. It's a private site and they can moderate it and delete posts as they see fit.

That said, I do wish they were more even handed about it. And I really wish they would do something about the noxious fringe that dominates the rec list.

okay okay...Stalin was off the hook. Yet, I'm very frustrated that this tool has become the private playground of a few admin who seem to have daily lunch with 3 diarists. It is fun to see the Dynamic. Here there is nothing. I wish someone would scoop this site up and run it. And I don't care if they yell Pro-HRC stuff...just yell it with some art. Again, 50% of the population wants HRC to run and this site is a mere shaddow of the opposition's favorite site. What is with that?

NOte that the racist piece about Wright and Obama sits proudly in the recent diaries list, untouched by adsmin hands.

And TexasDarlin is still posting here, despite her many offensive posts and her own blog which reads (and often cites) like the mirror site of NoQuarter.

TD has a post up oin her blog now that cites Larry Johnson's disgusting, McCain-aping attack on "Hamas endorsing Obama."

Can't tell the difference between the rightwing sickos and some self-proclaimed "progressive bloggers."

you have to subscribe to writers, search by tags and keep an eye out on daily kos. it gets hard when there are many. yet, the alternative sucks...as we see.

In most non-political forums I know, bans are usually permanent.

One I go to, TDIclub.com, if you say something racist or antisemetic, instant permanent ban.

I like DailyKos, but it's just too bloated.

The puerto rican message was deleted because even as i said, it was already posted twice.

I think racist and obvious RNC pieces should be banned.

If something is "repeated" it will sink, and fast, down the "new" diary list. It is like a democratic toilet flush. No one should assume it should be deleted. When the KKK comes I want to hear them, I want to see them march, and I want everyone to see how dumb, silly, and bigoted they are. That is what we call the "market place of ideas."

It's considered net etiquette to delete your own diary if it is materially the same as one already posted, I have had to do that once or twice when my effort didn't beat the other diarist to the 'Submit' button. And some diaries are self-censored, I'm guessing, when the diarist gets the impression they have made a minor ass of themselves or have gotten too many corrosive comments to do any partisan good.

Just sayin'.

I thought the recent diary list was the diaries simply in order of posting. You are implying that the order of that list is dynamic?

No, the new diaries crawl. It comes in order of posting. Yet, b/c so few people visit so few post. Thus, this diary has been up for 15-20 min.s and still is near the top. Go to a thriving site, and you will fly down if you don't get noticed and noticed fast. Additionally, the rec. list stagnates b/c no person is paying attentions. Better?

Your right, I am totally afraid of posting in Alegre's diaries and the rest of her crew.

I got deleted and warned.

Why dont the site admins get in on this conversation.

If you are going to have rules thats fine, just state and be clear.

Maybe a solution would a "banned section" so at the least the conversation can go on while the poster appeals to the admin.

I honestly have alot of faith in this site.

Daily Kos is wonderful but WAAAAY to bloated, here I already know most of the names and much to my suprise I have had some intelligent exchanges with HRC and Obama supporters.

"Bloated?" It is like a friggin engine! You just can't complain when that many people are buzzing. It breaks news for me. It has a bunch of people who are looking far and wide and posting when news breaks. You can hate Obama and the posters. Yet, it makes HuffingtonPost look like slow and old. If this site had done their work they too would have that type of action. Hillary would be thrilled. If 50% of the votes, give or take, are for Hillary, why is this site 1% of the traffic at DailyKos? B/c it is run for crap.

I LOVE that DKOS is SLAMMED!

Why? Because it helps my party and my country.

It just sucks for me because I have a job.

The slowness of MYdd gives me the chance to pretend to do some work :)

Daily Kos is a shining example of how much we have achieved, MoveOn has proved that even some old institutions can stay fresh and keep promoting our party.

let's discuss how to turn this site into a thriving place. do a little test. spend 10 minutes watching the crawl on the new diary list. then go to DialyKos and watch that list zip. no person is hurting you...they are not even here. you are hurting you. start to post in a manner which retains. stop deleting posts. incite debate rather than bashing.

The main damage the site is doing is by letting itself become the echo chamber that the striking members (ALEGRE started the strike) were so against.

Now they [Alegre] are a product of their original silly protest/strike

(Which I have to tell you, as DKOS member was barely even noticed).

Also lets face it people, this site is in alot of trouble once June comes around.

Most members here could care less about solving issues important to Democrats.

This is spot on. There has been little interest here on MyDD in the other races or Democratic issues. (Someone called this out recently and there were a few 'reactive' frontpage posts.) It's been all about Hillary and the horserace.

in the last hour 7 diaries have been posted. this means few people are reading. would you advertise here? would you call this a "place to go?" admin should get off their asses and work it. they have the most dynamic election in 40 years. the net is buzzing. like sites are bursting. they have the name recognition. and this? time for someone to get canned. or at least delete my diary.

I don't know how deletion works, but I think this site is also fine. Its audience and purpose is totally different from DKos. It isn't trying to be like DKos. I don't post at DKos any more because too many people jump on you if you say anything mildly positive about Hillary, her supporters, or her constituents (and I'm an ardent Obama supporter who thinks we need to be moving far left as a country).

I come here for discussion (sometimes civil, sometimes not) and I go there to read about downticket races and other political news.

i just think this site, pro hillary or not, should be as dynamic as other sites. you are not going to learn about hillary, in a positive way, at dailykos. and b/c of the stagnation, you aren't going to learn about hillary from more than a couple people here. and those couple of folks are rotting on the vine. "new blood?" yet, there is no pull for people to be here.

A simple fact: alegre posts and immediately gets rec's from the mysto zone. Check her rec' v. people who post here....

Most Diaries get 6-15 comments...

i once posted something with the name of a mydd diarist in my title and the admin's didn't delete the diary but took the name out and replaced it with "diarist." they told me that since this person was still a member of dailykos, while still striking, they couldn't allow the use of their name. now that type of watchdogging works.

so I added my voice to the good of the diary. I don't know how much longer I'll have TU status, but while I have it I will be fair with it, most of my 0's and 1's have been directed at republican trolls (like ilikebillnot).

I read through all the comments on this diary and I have been amazed how much both camps of supporters are hurting and reeling with a sense of being unfaired against. and I feel for the owners of the site as well. this just cannot be a picnic. I truly wish there was a way for us [both camps] to communicate better without all the ridicule and ill will. I have been called every name in the book by Obama supporters on this site and none of it is true. We just disagree. Anyway, I had no idea how you all felt. Truly.

Where does the diarist get this information:

In fact, MyDD's nos. increased approx. 3 times greater than Daily Kos nos. did during the period between the first week of March and the middle of April. Source: Alexa.com.

DKos has about 5 times as many registered users as MyDD. But they're not seeking the same audience. Kos is much, much more commercialized than this place. And, this place definitely has better moderation than DKos, in terms of keeping a lid on the insanity.

Here, you won't see 11 diaries in one day on Randi Rhodes calling Clinton and Ferraro "fucking whores"--with the majority of those 11 diaries attempting, in various ways, to justify and support Rhodes comments.

A comment string like that attached to this diary wouldn't see the light of day at Kos.

And, some of the loudest complainers in the comment strings on this diary are some of the most vitriolic of Obama supporters, IMHO.

insted of posting, you should watch the traffic on each site. on any given day, or time, it is zipping on dailykos and the rec. list doesn't have the same people dominating. here you can have the same person each day. sometimes one person will have three rec'ed at the same time. if that isn't stagnation nothing is. i'm not saying have the same content as dailykos. i'm saying be as busy and dynamic and not just one person taking talking points from a campaign. it just isn't rocket science...who wants to go to a site where you are all taking in each other's laundry. and maybe five people.

Your analysis is ridiculous by the way. DK has 160,000 registered. Mydd has something like 40,000. There is a lot to be said for a smaller blog. I registered at DK at 36,000. It was just getting past an obsession for Dean at the time but an interesting place. Now, it is a piece of crap. I don't care how speedy it is. The rapid influx of people has ruined it.

Actually, it's not dying. You can look at this recent article comparing the decline in traffic among well know blogs. Turns out blogs that are all Obama all the time, have had a significant drop in traffic within the past month. Here is the article for your review.

Mydd has not lost traffic, but DailyKos has. I have noticed DailyKos like tactics arriving here in the last week or so, where the Clinton diaries are spammed so much with nasty comments by Obama/Anti-Clinton supporters, no discussion can take place as to the real issue of the diary. I suspect that the Administrators here are trying to keep mydd from going the way of DKos, and others. DKos is feeling the pain, by the way as evidenced by Markos laughable amnesty on discontinuance of ratings. Those he chose to slap around earlier and remove ratings abilities from are now supposedly welcome back and their ratings restored only with a threat. It will be an extremely long time until the people spat upon by DK will go back there, and it is hilarious that he thinks this will do it. He's begging for business. I'd like to see him down on his knees.

You can do your own research about the so called "death" of mydd, and find you have been fooling yourself. There are lots of places to go and find out the real truth. So sad, and so sorry.

i posted at 4PM and it took over an hour for my post to sink to #10 for new diaries. the top rec'ed pieces get few comments. go watch daily kos. you sink down in 10 minutes and many of the top rec'ed pieces on dailykos will have have more comments than all the rec's here times two. be real and watch the traffic. ask yourself, how is it that the same people are always rec'ed and sometimes one of those people can have 3 rec'ed at a time on mydd? it is either a huge monolithic group or just 100 people doing a circle jerk. it is pure stagnation. don't get me wrong, i'm not arguing content or allegiance. i'm talking about this site is choking itself to death.

You have the same amount of backers for each candidate but one site is used 1000 to 2000 percent more than the other. hmmmm either they are lucky or this site is run like shit.

no, i come here to get other points of views. i come here b/c maybe, just maybe, i can see a mass of intelligent people throwing ideas around. i read the nytimes, christian monitor, WSJ, the economist, new yorker, and that damn pink paper. i'm looking all over the place for news, date, ideas, etc. i even watch fox...until i get sick. 1/2 the democrats are for Hillary. and i'm a democrat. are you getting any of this? i'm telling the people who run this site to up their game and get dynamic, up their numbers and get the pro-hillary fur flying in more than three directions.
